Madeline Pape, CPDT-KA, FDM
She/Her
Puppy Training and Socialization, Reactivity and Fear, Adolescent Behavior, Adult Basic Manners
Madeline is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and Family Dog Mediator (FDM). She spent the first four years of her training career in New York City, helping clients navigate a busy urban environment with their dogs, before returning to her hometown of Portland, Oregon. She works with dogs of all sizes and ages to help improve their lives, and the lives of their people.
When it comes down to it, Madeline believes dog training is about relationship building - and that we cannot help the animals we welcome into our homes if we don't understand them. She helps bridge that communication gap so you can better understand your dog's needs — and who knows, maybe you'll learn something about your own needs on the journey as well.
Madeline prioritizes animal welfare, because unmet needs often produce behavioral challenges. Her focus is on helping people understand the why behind behavior, and finding sustainable solutions.
In addition to her certifications, Madeline is a graduate of CATCH Canine Trainers Academy (and now a mentor to CATCH student trainers), a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, and has completed the Michael Shikashio Master Class in Aggression. She's also the content creator behind @friendofthedog on Instagram. She understands the value of staying up-to-date on scientific research regarding animal behavior, and showing up in community with other likeminded trainers, behavior professionals, and dog lovers.
The modern world is a very strange place for a dog. Madeline loves helping make sense of it all — on both ends of the leash.
