The dog trainer you choose can be the difference between living a harmonious life with your dog and seeing their behavioral issues get worse as your wallet gets thinner.

Unfortunately, there is little to no industry regulation on what qualifies a person to call themselves a “dog trainer”, so it can be challenging to find a trainer you trust. But not with us!

CPDT-KA; Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed

CBCC-KA; Certified Behavior Consultant Canine - Knowledge Assessed

This certification demonstrates a deep understanding of applied behavior analysis, learning theory, canine biology, ethology, life stages, and consulting skills.

The CPDT is a rigorous testing process that requires trainers to prove mastery of humane, science-based dog training practices. After engaging in a minimum of 300 hands-on hours of training with a variety of different dogs/behavioral problems, the trainer takes a standardized test meant to assess their professional knowledge.

The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT), established in 2001, is the leading independent certifying organization for the dog training profession. Thousands of dog training professionals worldwide maintain the CCPDT’s certifications as a mark of high professional distinction.

Because certification is a standardized measure of a professional’s grasp of the Body of Knowledge within a field, education is integral to the certification process—and continuing education is integral to the recertification process. In order to maintain this certification every certificate holder is required to attend regular educational seminars to obtain CEUs or their certification will expire.

The IAABC was founded in 2004, recognizing that the practice of assisting the public with companion animal behavior problems was a growing field encompassing many different professionals: veterinary behaviorists, veterinarians, behavior consultants, animal trainers, animal shelter employees and volunteers, academics, as well as practicing professionals who don't always fit neatly into one of the aforementioned categories.

The goals of the IAABC are to standardize and support the practice of animal behavior consulting, to provide quality, evidence-based education and peer and supervising mentoring, and to provide resources for pet owners needing advice.

The most comprehensive course on dog aggression for trainers and behavior consultants available anywhere in the world. Brie Blakeman has been working on reactivity and aggression cases for years, and decided to deepen her education on the topic by attending and completing Michael Shikashio CDBC’s Aggression in Dogs master course. This program gives graduates access to an elite community of aggression specialists who support one another on the aggression cases each are working independently. Having this kind of support network among trainers greatly increases the efficiency and effectiveness within the aggression cases they are working through.

Expert Instruction

Taught by world renowned aggression expert, Michael Shikashio CDBC, with additional modules presented by Dr. Chris Pachel DVM, DACVB, CABC, Jessica Dolce CCFE and Kim Brophey CDBC.

FDM - Family Dog Mediation

A Family Dog Mediator (FDM) has completed Kim Brophey's Applied Ethology L.E.G.S.program. FDMs assess each animal based on their L.E.G.S. which includes each dog's: Learning, Environment, Genetics, and Self, as each plays a critical role in the animal's behavior. Family Dog Mediators help mediate the places where there are conflicts between dogs and their humans. It is a groundbreaking new model reaching beyond traditional dog training to build a bridge between the "why" and the "how" of dog behavior by looking at the whole picture of the species through the lens of multiple scientific principles. It is a movement to raise the bar of public understanding about pet dogs through integrated science and innovative practical solutions. FDMs welcome you to MEET YOUR DOG! (Meet your Dog is a book we highly recommend for all to read by Kim Brophy, CBC, CPDT-KA) who created this certification program.

APDT- Professional Members

The Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) is a professional organization of individual trainers who are committed to becoming better trainers through continued education in most current and innovative dog training techniques. Brie is an active member of this organization.
